We are the people behind this research project:

Panu Kalmi is Professor of Economics (2011-) and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies (2017) at the University of Vaasa, Finland. He holds a PhD in Economics from Copenhagen Business School (2002). He is a former President of the Finnish Economic Association (2012-2013). Previously he had various positions, including Acting Professor and Academy Research Fellow, at the Aalto School of Economics (2001-2011). He has been a visiting fellow at Cornell University (2006), University of Victoria (2011), and George Washington University (2016). Professor Kalmi’s research interests include financial literacy, financial education, banking and personnel economics. He has authored around 60 refereed articles and has acted as a reviewer for around 40 academic journals.

Jaana Rahko works as a university teacher at the Department of Economics in University of Vaasa. In 2016 she received her Ph.D. in Economics. In addition to financial literacy, her research interests include economics of innovation, R&D and knowledge spillovers.

Tanja Sihvonen is Professor of Communication Studies (2014-) and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy (2017) at the University of Vaasa, Finland. She is also the chairperson of the Finnish Society for Game Research (2016-). In her book Players Unleashed! Modding The Sims and the Culture of Gaming (Amsterdam University Press 2011) she focused on player communities and the cultural appropriation of computer games. She has also been studying social games and the transformation of the game industry. Her research interests span the areas of digital media and games, participatory culture, and virtual work. At the moment, she is studying the algorithmic power of social media.

Olli Raatikainen works as a university teacher at the Department of Communications Studies in University of Vaasa. Until the end of 2017 he works as a full-time project researcher in this project. His main research interests include digital games and especially in-game advertising, on which his dissertation also focuses.

Janne Pekkala works as a concept designer in Design Centre Muova having 15 years experience on designing products and services with Finnish companies. He is a doctoral candidate at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Aalto University. In this project, he studies how concept design can support the development of educational financial games.

Sanna Peltonen is working as a researcher in Design Centre Muova. She has over 10 years’ experience in studying and applying customer-oriented design in research and business. Her research interests focus on service design and customer involvement in service development. In this project, she studies the use of service design methods in the context of educational games.

Jussi Loukiainen works as a project manager in Design Centre Muova. His main projects are West Coast Startup, business incubator of University of Vaasa & VAMK University of applied sciences and West Coast Game Lab, which builds the game cluster in Ostrobothnia region.
